Western Michigan University plans to buy several properties on the north edge of its East Campus for development.
The Board of Trustees unanimously approved the purchase of 10 homes Wednesday, according to the university.
Two of the parcels are on Oakland Drive and the other eight are on Bellevue Place, east of Oakland. All have been on the market since late December.
The university said it has already negotiated a sale price of $370,000 with property owners. It expects to close on the property in the next 60 days.
All 10 homes will be demolished, WMU says. The precise use of the property has not been specified.
The purchase is in line with WMU’s strategic plan and effort to expand around historic facilities.
