Church burglar, cars keys thief arrested

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) – A 19-year-old male is in jail for allegedly burglarizing a church in Grand Rapids.

The crime occurred around 11 p.m. Sunday at the Madison Square Church at 1441 Madison Ave. SE.

Two officers were on patrol, checking residential neighborhoods, shortly thereafter, and spotted a suspicious person standing between three parked vehicles in the back of the church lot near Garden Street and Prospect Avenue SE.

The officers investigated further and noticed the person had several sets of different vehicle keys in his possession, and none of the vehicles belonged to him, police said.

The officers then discovered this person had just broken into the Madison Square Church.

The suspect, who lives two blocks away, was also wanted on a felony warrant out of the City of Wyoming for a home invasion.

The suspect was apprehended on multiple charges.
