Update: Trooper not hurt in Kent Co. wreck

The Michigan State Police trooper who was first reported as injured in a crash that occurred Monday in eastern Kent County was in fact not hurt.

The wreck happened just before 11 a.m. in the westbound lanes of I-96 just west of the Lowell exit as the trooper responded to a slide-off wreck.

The trooper told 24 Hour News 8 that he was outside of his cruiser when another vehicle hit his cruiser.

MSP initially said that he was injured. But at the scene, the trooper said he was OK.

Troopers who were assisting at the scene said drivers on I-96 were going way too fast, and need to slow down to a safer speed for the conditions.

The wreck is under investigation.
