GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A car caught fire in a downtown Grand Rapids parking ramp Tuesday afternoon.

The single-car fire was at the Louis Campau Parking Ramp on Monroe Avenue NW north of Fulton Street.

The fire started in the trunk of a security vehicle that was patroling city lots, city security officials on scene said.

The security guard who was driving the vehicle that caught fire smelled smoke and safely escaped the vehicle.

A major struggle in fighting the fire was getting water and equipment into the ramp, but a Grand Rapids Fire Department pumper truck was small enough to clear the ceiling.
