LaughFest volunteer orientation Jan. 30

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) – Would you like to volunteer for Gilda’s LaughFest 2014?

Then come attend a volunteer orientation kickoff meeting from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday at Steelcase Corporate Headquarters, 1111 44th St. SE in Kentwood. Just follow the LaughFest “smile” signs when you arrive at the complex.

Those already registered to volunteer, and those who want to sign up, are welcome to attend the meeting. They will learn about various positions and assignments for the fourth annual 10-day festival of laughter scheduled for March 6-16 in Grand Rapids, Holland and Lowell.

Volunteer opportunities include event promotion, logistics, retail, front of house duties such as ticket taking, and office support at both Gilda’s Club and LaughFest Central during all LaughFest ticketed and non-ticketed events.

LaughFest is looking, in particular, to add volunteer support to the FUNderwear 5K Run, back of house duties such as technical assistance, and to events taking place in Holland and Lowell.

LaughFest 2014 headliners include Jay Leno, Jim Gaffigan, Lily Tomlin, Sinbad, and Chris Tucker. Other acts announced include Mike Birbiglia, Maria Bamford, Miranda Sings, Todd Barry, Rory Scovel and Nick Thune, The Tenderloins, Judah Friedlander, Jen Kirkman, Blackout Diaries, and the stars of MTV’s “Guy Code.” New and returning activities include FUNderwear 5K Run, Seriously Funny Adventure Challenge, and People and Pets. Showcases and competitions include Best of the Midwest, National Stand-up Comedy Showcase, and Clean Comedy Showcase.

Proceeds from the festival will go to support the free cancer, grief, and emotional health programs offered through Gilda’s Club Grand Rapids.
