Pole barn roof collapses due to snow

The roof of Noordyk Business Equipment in Walker collapsed. (Feb. 2, 2014)

WALKER, Mich. (WOOD) — The roof of a Walker business collapsed Sunday; the fifth collapse due to snow in a about week.

It happened at Noordyk Business Equipment, an electronics supplier, located at 3606 Remembrance Rd. NW.

The collapse was caused by 18 inches of snow on the roof, Deputy Fire Director Robert Walker said on the scene.

He also said the building — a pole barn structure — is a total loss.

The building’s owner could not be immediately located.

There have been several roof collapses at businesses due to snow in West Michigan in the last eight days. Among them were the West Michigan Tourist Association Offices in Grand Rapids on Saturday, a Lacks Enterprises facility in Kentwood, The Stow Company in Holland Township; and a Haworth facility in Saugatuck.
