From Olympic athlete to Olympian coach

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) The Olympics are officially under way, and 24 Hour News 8 Sports Director Jack Doles is in Sochi to take in all of the action.

He got the chance to catch up with a familiar face from West Michigan: Muskegon native Mark Grimmette. This is his sixth Olympic Games, but while Grimmette used to compete with Team U.S.A. in luge, this year he is coaching.

WOOD TV8 is celebrating the Olympics with the Olympic rings painted right on the ice at Rosa Parks Circle. Starting tomorrow, when the opening ceremonies kick off, WOOD TV8 is sponsoring free skating at Rosa Parks Circle for kids 17 and under, while skates last. The offer will last through e Olympic Games.

You can catch our special “Olympic Hopes, Gold Dreams” on WOOD TV8 at 7 p.m. on Friday, February 7, 2014, followed by the opening ceremony at 8 p.m.
