GR gets new professional basketball team

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Grand Rapids is now home to another professional minor league sports team — the Grand Rapids Cyclones.

The new basketball team held a news conference Thursday morning at the Deltaplex to give the public a chance to meet the team.

The team, which is owned by Adam Chrisco, William Swets and Matthew Herman, is part of the Premier Basketball League, or PBL.Grand Rapids Cyclones logo 020614

The PBL consists of two divisions – East and Midwest – and includes 11 teams.

One other PBL team already exists in Michigan – the Lake Michigan Admirals, based in St. Joseph.

Beginning at 1 p.m. Thursday, the Cyclones will host open auditions to find the person who will sing the National Anthem at home games for the 2014 season.
