DETROIT, Mich. (WOOD) — A Detroit 5-year-old who police said had been taken by her non-custodial mother has been found safe, WDIV is reporting.
Detroit police started looking for Zoie Jackson, 5, and her mother Carmela Jackson on Tuesday. Jackson, who does not have custody of Zoie and has been diagnosed with mental illnesses, apparently picked the girl up from school.
Detroit police initially said the two may be headed toward the Elkhart, Ind. Area.
Thursday, WDIV reported that Zoei and Jackson were located in the area of Lubbock, Texas. Zoie was safe.
Detroit police said Jackson was apparently pulled over Thursday evening after driving erratically and that she told a sheriff’s deputy she was headed to Mexico, WDIV says.
Zoie will be returned home.
