1 killed in 2-vehicle Kentwood crash

KENTWOOD, Mich. (WOOD) — One person was killed in a two-vehicle crash near the Sam’s Club in Kentwood Sunday.

It happened around 11:50 a.m. in the 4300 block of 29th Street near Acquest Avenue SE. Police said Devon Capman was driving east on 29th Street when he lost control of his car, which went into the westbound lanes and collided with a westbound vehicle.

His wife, 23-year-old Sarah Capman, was riding in the front seat. Both were taken to a Grand Rapids hospital.

Sarah Capman was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Devon Capman, also 23, was treated and released from the hospital.

The driver of the westbound vehicle, 57-year-old Thomas Spaanstra of Kentwood, suffered minor injuries.

This portion of 29th Street was closed until 4 p.m. as police investigated the crash, which remains under investigation.
