WALKER, Mich. (WOOD) — Schuler Books will close its Walker store this spring.
The Alpine Avenue NW location, north of I-96, has been open for more than a decade. Schuler Books’ lease on the building is up in April.
A precise date was not specified in a Monday release, but the company said it is going to close the store.
Co-owner Cecile Fehsenfeld said in the release that difficult traffic patterns on Alpine Avenue and the fact that the store is difficult to see from the road contributed to its challenges. She said the store has always conducted less business than other Schuler Books locations.
The company said continuing to operate the store would come at “at increased cost that would impact its viability.”
“The company is engaged in exploring a number of other retail opportunities to expand on its brand in Grand Rapids and elsewhere, as well as increased investment in our flagship 28th Street location,” the Monday release reads in part.
The store closing sale will start on Feb. 14, the release says. All books will start at 25% off and gift merchandise will be 50% off.
Some fixtures and Chapbook café equipment will also be sold. Those interested in purchasing the items can inquire about price at the store.
After the Alpine closure, there will be a Schuler’s on 28th Street east of Breton Road SE in Grand Rapids, one in Okemos, Mich. and one in Lansing.
