Unoccupied house sustains damage in fire

PORTAGE, Mich. (WOOD) — Firefighters spent nearly an hour Monday night dousing a house fire in Portage.

The fire broke out at a single-family residence in the 4700 block of W. Milham Avenue, west of US-131according to the Portage Department of Public Safety.

It took about 50 minutes for firefighters from Portage and Oshtemo Township to knock down the flames.

No one was living at the house because it was undergoing renovation.

The building sustained heavy smoke and fire damage, Portage DPS says.

The fire marshal is investigating the cause of the blaze.
