PORTAGE, Mich. (WOOD) — The same person may be responsible for two armed robberies in the Kalamazoo area, investigators say.

The first robbery happened around 9 a.m. Sunday at the Shell gas station in the 5000 block of West Main Street between US-131 and N Drake Road in Oshtemo Township.

The second robbery happened around 1:35 p.m. Monday at the Harding’s Woodbridge grocery store in the 3700 block of W. Centre Avenue in Portage. In that case, the suspect stole an undetermined amount of money after approaching the clerk at the counter with a knife.

The suspect in both robberies is a black male between 5-foot-8 and 5-foot-10 with a “husky, muscular build.” He was seen wearing a stocking cap with ear flaps, a dark jacket with quilted stitching, a black and white circle scarf and red baggy sweatpants.

He was armed with a knife in both instances.

A small red passenger car in poor condition was seen in the area both times.

Anyone with information or who can identify the suspect is asked to call the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office at 269.383.8748, the Portage Department of Public Safety at 269.329.4567 or Silent Observer at 269.343.2100.
