FENNVILLE, Mich. (WOOD) — A years-long legal battle that brought famed environmental activist Erin Brockovich to West Michigan has been settled.
Six families reached a settlement with Birds Eye Foods in Fennville, the terms of which are not being released.
In 2009, well water at some 150 homes was contaminated. The problem was traced back to Birds Eye Foods — the plant had been spraying waste water on fields that contaminated the wells.
Dozens of residents sued Birds Eye and Erin Brockovich came to Fennville to fight on their behalf.
The final six families still involved in the suit were set to take the company to trial later this month. The deal ends that effort.
One family involved told 24 Hour News 8 over the phone Thursday that they were “very happy” with the settlement.
