ANTWERP TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) – An employee of a West Michigan dental office and some friends are accused of stealing numerous items, as well as filling out, calling in and obtaining unauthorized prescriptions.
Kyle Hughes, 23, and Emily Griffin, 24, both from Galesburg, were arrested on charges of larceny in a building and possession of methamphetamine. An investigation into the prescription fraud continues.
Van Buren County sheriff’s deputies responded Feb .11 on a report of a break-in at a dental office in Antwerp Township, near Paw Paw. A dental office employee stayed after work and invited friends to the office, police said.
Several items including credit cards, blank checks, a prescription pad, the doctor’s signature stamp, and shoes were stolen, police said.
Police said the suspects may have called in prescriptions to several Kalamazoo-area pharmacies by using the doctor’s identification numbers, according to a police news release. The suspects’ friends then went to the pharmacies to get the prescriptions filled.
Deputies are working with authorities in Kalamazoo regarding charges for prescription fraud.
