1 hospitalized after Portage apartment fire

PORTAGE, Mich. (WOOD) — One person was hospitalized Thursday after an apartment fire in Portage.

The fire broke out around 4 p.m. in the 800 block of Barrington Drive, according to the Portage Department of Public Safety. That’s off Garden Lane, east of S. Westnedge Avenue.

It took firefighters about 45 minutes to get the fire under control.

The building had four apartments in it. The extent of the damage to the building is not yet known.

One resident was taken to the hospital. The nature and severity of that person’s injuries are not yet known.

Oshtemo, Texas and Comstock townships; the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety; and the South Kalamazoo County Fire Authority assisted at the scene.

The fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
