DETROIT (AP) — The state of Michigan has released a report on an escape that was stopped in December at the same prison where a convicted killer got away last week.

Lekeldric Porter was captured between two fences at the Ionia Correctional Facility, about 35 miles east of Grand Rapids. He told officials that he “didn’t feel much of a shock” from an electric fence because he was wearing trash bags.

Porter says he also protected himself from razor wire by wearing cardboard. But the plan went awry when he was spotted on video monitors.
A maintenance worker plowing a parking lot aimed headlights on Porter. Several officers were in the area, including one who loaded a 12-gauge shotgun.

Prisoner Michael Elliot escaped from the same prison for 24 hours on Feb. 2.
