GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) It could be the scariest news a parent could ever hear, but many will find out that their child has Congenital Heart Disease, the most common of all birth defects.

We’re fortunate here in West Michigan because Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital has the only Congenital Heart Center in the area.

February 7-14 is Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Week. Dr. Marcus Haw is a cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon and is the co-director of the Congenital Heart Center. He explains what the disease is, how to spot symptoms, and what kind of care is available.
