Whitecaps adding new mascot to team

PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — The West Michigan Whitecaps are introducing a new mascot to their team, and they want the public’s help to name it.

Thursday, the team announced that at the start of the 2014 season, Crash, the Whitecaps’ current mascot, will be joined by a female River Rascal.

There are three ways to enter the contest. Fans can submit their ideas on the Whitecaps’ Facebook page, by tweeting with the hashtag #newcapsmascot, or by emailing promotions@whitecapsbaseball.com.

The contest runs through Feb. 24.

The winner will receive tickets to the Whitecaps’ opening day game, mascot merchandise and the chance to meet the new mascot herself.

The Whitecaps are holding an open house on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. where tickets for the April 8 home opener will be available.It will be the first public event at the ballpark since a fire heavily damaged the stadium on Jan. 3.

Anyone who purchases a home opener ticket will get a second ticket of equal value to any game in April or May.
