BANGOR, Mich. (WOOD) — A bowling alley in Van Buren County is likely a total loss after its roof collapsed under the weight of snow.
It happened in Bangor at the Lariat Lanes early Friday morning.
For the past few decades, the bowling alley has served as a social destination for the small town.
Owner Dick Hensley told 24 Hour News 8 that it was so much more than just a bowling alley.
“I have met a lot of wonderful people,” Hensley said. “Our social life was here, the community’s social life.”
Hensley has owned Lariat Lanes since 1982. When the roof came down, just about the only thing spared were the memories and the sense of community built by bowling.
Hensley said he has no idea when the roof fell. He left around midnight, and police came to his door around 8 a.m.
Friday, he said he hadn’t had a chance to talk to his insurance company to decide if he will rebuild.
