HARTFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A West Michigan man allegedly beat up multiple people including his ex-girlfriend and current girlfriend Saturday morning.
The suspect was identified as 24-year-old Richard Westberry II from Watervliet. He was arraigned on Tuesday on two counts of malicious destruction of property (felonies), two counts of domestic violence (misdemeanor), and one count of assault and battery (misdemeanor). He posted a $50,000 bond and was released from custody. He was also arrested for violating a bond from a prior domestic violence case.
The latest incident happened at 3:40 a.m. in the 58000 block of Springdale Drive in Hartford Township.
According to a news release, police were called to the area on reports of a domestic violence incident and possible gunshots fired.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they set up a perimeter and spoke to victims fleeing the scene.
Deputies determined the suspect was intoxicated, entered the home without an invite and assaulted four people. He also damaged several items in the home and a car belonging to one of the victims.
Police took Westberry into custody at gunpoint. He did not have any weapons, as previously thought when police received the original 911 call.
Westberry’s 30-year-old ex-girlfriend from Hartford, who has kids with him, suffered a swollen/cut lip, scratches all around her neck, a laceration on her right elbow, a bite mark on her right forearm, and multiple contusions on both forearms. Westberry’s 19-year-old sister from Bangor suffered a bruised left eye and swollen lip. Westberry’s current 25-year-old girlfriend from Watervliet suffered multiple facial injuries. Westberry’s sister’s boyfriend, a 31-year-old man from Watervliet, suffered a bruised left eye and severe bruising around his left cheek.
All victims were checked out by emergency personnel at the scene and refused further treatment.
