2 home intruders detained near scene

ROSS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) – Two people were detained near the scene of a home invasion, shortly after the crime occurred.

The victim arrived home just before 4 a.m. Monday and noticed the residence had been broken into, and he called 911.

He then saw an unfamiliar vehicle parked in the road just south of his residence in the 8500 block of N. 40th Street in Ross Township, east of Richland.

A Kalamazoo Township officer and some county sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene and saw two people trying to leave in that vehicle.

The vehicle’s occupants, later identified as the burglars, were detained. Items from the house were recovered from their vehicle, police said.

Police also recovered tools used to commit the crime, an illegal weapon, and suspected controlled substances, according to a news release from the sheriff’s department.

As this investigation continues, the sheriff’s department asks anyone with more information to call investigators at 269.383.8748 or Silent Observer at 269.343.2100.
