CASCADE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) – A man was arrested Monday morning after a handgun was found inside his carry-on bag at a security checkpoint at the Gerald R. Ford International Airport.
Jason Emanouil, a local business owner, was traveling with his wife and their two children around 5:20 a.m. at the facility in Cascade Township.
An X-ray machine detected the loaded Ruger in his bag, and Transportation Security Administration staff contacted airport police.
Emanouil, 39, is a concealed pistol license owner and told authorities he forgot the weapon was in his bag, an airport spokesperson told 24 Hour News 8.
He was cooperative with authorities who arrested him on a state misdemeanor of carrying a firearm in a sterile area of an airport.
Emanouil was transported to the Kent County Correctional Facility where he later posted a $300 bond and released.
