CASCADE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) – The Kent County Prosecutor’s Office has issued a warning after several reports of residents being scammed in Cascade Township and northeast Grand Rapids.
The cons have gone to homes impersonating as DTE workers offering energy assistance funding. The phony DTE workers have asked residents for their personal information, including social security numbers.
According to a release from the Area Agency on Aging of Western Michigan, DTE is not sending employees door to door offering payment assistance.
The Kent County Elder Abuse Coalition recommends residents call local law enforcement immediately if anyone comes to their door identifying themselves as DTE employees offering payment assistance.
It also reminds residents to never give personal information to solicitors.
