KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — A man was stabbed multiple times in Kalamazoo Thursday after what appears to have been a dispute over a cellphone.

It happened around 5:45 p.m. at the Kalamazoo Transportation Center on N. Burdick Street near Kalamazoo Avenue, according to the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found a man lying on the ground outside the building. He had several stab wounds to the back.

The 36-year-old victim, a Kalamazoo resident, was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

The 39-year-old suspect, also of Kalamazoo, tried to run away but was quickly arrested.

Witnesses said the pair had been arguing over a cellphone. KDPS said the suspect tracked victim all day, thinking he had stolen the phone.

Neither the suspect nor the victim have been identified. It’s not yet known exactly what charges the suspect may face.
