BIG RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The man accused of attacking his live-in girlfriend and her two children with a knife at their Mecosta County home has been formally charged.
James W. Getz, 40, was arraigned Friday in Mecosta County District Court on charges of attempted murder and assault with intent to do great bodily harm.
The incident happened early Wednesday morning at their home at the Chippewa Hills Estates Trailer Court in Remus, police said.
Getz’ girlfriend and her children, one of whom is a toddler, were able to get away from the home and took shelter in her vehicle until police arrived, police said.
Mecosta County sheriff’s officials said the woman and her children suffered stab wounds.
After he was arrested, Getz was hospitalized for a self-inflicted stab wound.
He has since been released from the hospital and is currently lodged at the Mecosta County Jail.
