BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) — One Battle Creek resident was  killed and another was critically hurt after they were hit by a truck late Saturday night.

The crash happened around 11:30pm Saturday on Columbia Avenue between Riverside Drive and Acacia Boulevard, Battle Creek police say. A red pickup truck was going eastbound on Columbia Avenue when it struck two pedestrians walking on the south side of the road.

Lillie Montgomery, 22, was taken to Bronson Battle Creek, where she was pronounced dead.

Christopher Gariephy, 25, was taken to a Kalamazoo hospital and listed in critical condition.

The driver of the red pickup truck, a 57-year-old woman from Ceresco, was arrested at the scene.  Police say alcohol was a factor in the crash. The Ceresco woman’s blood-alcohol content (BAC) level was .11 when she was arrested.
