Belding: Run water to prevent pipe freeze

BELDING, Mich. (WOOD) — Belding is the latest community asking residents to run their water continuously to prevent frozen pipes.

Officials of the Ionia County city say frost depth is already five feet below ground. And another round of arctic air moving in, they say conditions will be ripe for frozen lines.

Residents are being asked to run a stream of water about the size of a toothpick until further notice.

The city also suggests keeping cupboard doors open to allow heat to the area around the pipe.

The city says it will offer water bill discounts.

Three Rivers has issued a similar advisory and the City of Kalamazoo issued a water service freeze warning late last week.
