BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) – A 30-year-old man is facing numerous charges for allegedly forcing his way into a residence of an acquaintance and having sex with a 14-year-old girl who he brought with him to the scene.
Derek Bloemen was arraigned Monday on charges of third-degree criminal sexual conduct, felon in possession of a firearm, assault with a dangerous weapon and two counts of felony firearms. He was charged with CSC because the teen is too young to consent to sex.
The charges stem from an incident that happened Sunday afternoon at a home in the 100 block of E. Van Buren Street in Battle Creek.
Bloemen forced his way inside the home and started to have sex with the teen, whom he knew, police said. He later told police he went to the home because he needed a place to have sex, and didn’t think the homeowner would have a problem with it.
The homeowner caught the pair having sex, and asked them to leave. That’s when Bloemen pulled out a handgun forced the homeowner to leave instead.
The homeowner called 911, and Calhoun County sheriff’s deputies responded just around 4:40 p.m.
Deputies entered the home and saw Bloemen and teen having sex, and also saw a handgun on the nightstand next to the Bloemen, police said. Bloemen was then arrested.
Deputies then executed two search warrants, one in the 200 block of Orleans Street and one in the 100 block of West Street, as a result of the Van Buren Street incident.
Even though the home is located in Battle Creek, city police officers were already occupied with a standoff incident on Spring Street. As a result, deputies with the sheriff’s department responded instead.
