The move from schooling to entering the workforce can be challenging and terrifying for students. For students with disabilities, the search for employment is more difficult. However, one organization is helping prepare students with disabilities for the workplace.
Project SEARCH was one of our finalists for the Connecting with Community Awards for partnering with local businesses to assist students in building work skills and valuable relationships.
Many businesses around Grand Rapids work with Project Search including Spectrum Health and Fifth Third Bank. The program focuses on letting students learn and work outside of the classroom.
Students in the program are placed in internships with businesses in the area. The program also provides work coaches who assist the students with performance, social skills, work adaptations, and employer communication.
