COLDWATER, Mich. (WOOD) — A man is facing animal cruelty charges after several tips to police regarding underweight and neglected horses.

One of the callers reported that he had been dropping hay and water to the animals since February 1st.

Deputies at Branch County agreed to meet the caller earlier this week at the home located on 404 Warren Road in Ovid Township.

When deputies arrived, they found a dead horse in one of the barns.

The owner of the horses, 33-year-old Geoffrey Paul Eickmann, was tracked down at his job in Indiana where he was arrested. He waived extradition and was taken to the Branch County Jail.

The nine remaining horses were removed from the property while the investigation continues.
