Man with disability killed in house fire

AUSTIN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A Mecosta County man was killed in a Tuesday morning fire at his home.

The fire broke out at the victim’s residence on Timber Trail off 120th Avenue in Austin Township, southeast of Big Rapids.

Firefighters arrived too late to save the house. They did not discover that a man had been killed until the fire was under control.

The name of the victim — who authorities said had a disability — is being withheld pending notification of his family.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, but it does not appear to have been the result of foul play.
