GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A man accused of shooting a woman in the chest outside a home on Grand Rapids’ southeast side last summer has entered a no contest plea.

Michael Brown entered the plea to three charges, including assault with intent to commit murder, felony firearms and carrying a concealed weapon, on Monday in Kent County Circuit Court.

The charges are connected to a shooting that occurred in August 2013  in the 700 block of Oakdale Street SE.

Police said Brown got out of a car that had pulled up to the home and shot the woman, who is in her 40s, in the chest as she stood on her porch.

Brown then took off, police said. He was arrested a short time later.

The victim survived her injuries.

Brown’s sentencing is scheduled for April 1. He’s expected to be sentenced to 10 years and six months to 17 years and six months in prison.
