Flu-related death in St. Joseph County

COLDWATER, Mich. (WOOD) — A St. Joseph County man has died after contracting influenza, according to the Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph County Health Agency.

The man, described as elderly, died of flu complications at an outcounty facility, the health agency said.

His was the second death in St. Joseph County this season linked to the flu and the third handled by the tri0county health agency. There were “underlying conditions” in all three cases.

It’s unknown if any of the people who died had gotten a flu shot.

“Some years, we see the peak of the flu season hit in March and April. While we have seen some decreases in flu reports, we are not out of the woods yet,” Health Officer Steve Todd said in a statement.

He urged residents to get flu shots.
