Howard City needs people to keep faucets on

HOWARD CITY, Mich. (WOOD) — Residents and businesses in Howard City are being asked to keep their water running until the end of the month.

City officials are asking anyone who uses the city’s water system to run a pencil-sized stream of water continuously through the end of March.

Officials made the request due to the depth of the frost line and after seeing an increase in pipe breaks.

Officials said water bills would be adjusted to “normal” levels to compensate for the extra cost of streaming water.

The cities of Belding, Kalamazoo and Three Rivers also asked their residents to keep their faucets running in order to avoid water pipe issues this winter.
