LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A Hartford man has been arraigned on criminal sexual conduct and drug possession charges after he allegedly committed rape and forced his victim to use methamphetamine.

Scottie Costner, 33, was arraigned in Paw Paw District Court on charges of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, possession of methamphetamine, being a habitual offender and violating a personal protection order.

Deputies were called to meet with the alleged female victim, who wanted to report a PPO violation, around 8:15 a.m. Wednesday in Lawrence Township.

The victim told deputies that Costner had been served with the PPO while he was serving time at the Van Buren County Jail for impersonating a firefighter, and as soon as he was able to post bond on Feb. 27, he returned to her home and violated the PPO, the sheriff’s office said.

The victim said Costner stayed at her home for several days doing meth, raped her and forced her to use meth, according to the sheriff’s office. She was eventually able to escape, and when she did, she went to her mom’s house and called police.

Deputies then searched the victim’s home and found Costner sleeping, the sheriff’s office said. He was arrested, and deputies found meth residue and ingredients used to make meth.

The victim also showed deputies the Dumpsters in Hartford where she had dumped components of a meth lab, the sheriff’s office said.

Costner is currently at the Van Buren County Jail on at $150,000 bond. He was also arraigned on the PPO violation in Detroit on a $500 bond.

Deputies are still investigating the meth lab, and could still pursue charges for operating and maintaining a meth lab.
