3rd annual Griffins Purple Community game

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The third annual Griffins Purple Community game is Friday night.

Purple community connects people who are passionate about raising funds for cancer research at the Van Andel Institute.

24 Hour News 8’s Emily Linnert spoke with 14-year-old Ethan Miller and his mother, Barb, on Daybreak Friday morning.

Ethan has been fighting Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia for over a year and will be honored at the ceremonial puck drop.

“I never would have imagined a couple years ago that someone would tell me your child has cancer. It’s the most devastating thing in the world. Life just kind of takes a 180 and you have to start adjusting to the new way of life,” said Barb.

The game starts at 7 p.m. at Van Andel Arena.
