ALLEGAN, Mich. (WOOD) — An Allegan County man accused of burning a small child with a cigarette lighter is facing child abuse charges.
Joshua Lee Newton, 30, of Trowbridge Township, was arraigned in 57th District Court Friday on second-degree child abuse and third-degree child abuse charges.
Newton was arrested Thursday after troopers investigated a report made by his girlfriend in which she said Newton burned her 4-year-old son with the lighter.
Newton is currently in the Allegan County Jail on a $25,000 bond.
If convicted, he could face up to 10 years in prison.
