Fifth Third will add more hydrants to ballpark

COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. (WOOD) — Fifth Third Ballpark is working with the Plainfield Fire Department to add more fire hydrants around the ballpark.

When the fire sparked on January 3, there were only two hydrants at the ballpark.

The Plainfield Fire Chief told 24 Hour News 8 that there will now be at least five hydrants at the ballpark and possibly more. He said the hydrants cannot be installed now considering the frozen ground.

The ballpark is also adding valves where fire crews can hook their hoses up to get water into the park faster in the event of a fire.

The new hydrants will be in place and operational by the 2015 baseball season.

The Whitecaps are still doing their traditional food voting on a new concession item and Friday is the last day to vote.

The home opener for the season is April 8.
