Drunken driver hits house, kills man

AUBURN, Mich. (AP) — Authorities in Bay County say a drunken driver crashed an SUV into a house, killing a man who lived there and injuring his wife.

WSGW-AM says the crash happened early Sunday in Auburn, about 10 miles west of Bay City. Police tell MLive.com that the dead man was 41-year-old Vaughn Lietzke.

Authorities say his 42-year-old wife Sandra Lietzke was airlifted to Saginaw’s Saint Mary’s of Michigan Medical Center, where she was in stable condition.

Deputies say the 21-year-old driver failed to stop at a stop sign, ran over a curb and struck a corner of the house. Sheriff’s Lt. James Chlebowski says the Auburn man was examined at the scene, the taken to the jail.

The lieutenant says the driver’s name will be released after he’s arraigned Monday.
