REYNOLDS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — The search continues for a man who police say tried to abduct a girl as she walked to a friend’s house.
The suspect was driving a vehicle and approached the 8-year-old girl near Amy School Road and Almy Road, south of U.S. 131, in Reynolds Township, northwest of Howard City.
The man reportedly told the girl that her aunt was in a hospital, and to “get in” his vehicle, according to a police news release.
The girl from Howard City refused and continued walking to her friend’s house. She was not harmed. The man drove southbound from the scene.
He is described as a heavy-set male in his late 20s or early 30s, having a bald head and a beard on his face. He was wearing a black tank top and a camouflage, zip-up, hooded sweatshirt at the time.
His vehicle is believed to be a newer, full-sized, red pickup truck with a standard cab, possibly a Ford.
Lee Dykert, who lives down the road from where the incident happened, said she is now worried about her two grandchildren, who are about the girl’s age. She had stopped walking them to their bus stop, but the incident changed her mind.
“I’m a little nervous about it now because I haven’t been going with them. I just look out the window and but now it’s dark and I can’t see them. So I guess I’m going to be sticking close to them every moment,” she said.
Michigan State Police troopers assisted Montcalm County sheriff’s deputies with the case, which remains under investigation.
