OTISCO TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A teen was airlifted to the hospital after falling from a sled towed by a snowmobile, the Ionia County Sheriff’s Office says.

The crash happened around 2 p.m. Monday on property just off of Ellis Road near M-91 in Otisco Township, west of Belding.

A 14-year-old was riding a sled that was being pulled behind a snowmobile, the sheriff’s office says. He fell from the sled, his helmet came off and his head hit the ground.

The sheriff’s office says emergency responders from Belding were assisted by citizens who used their snowmobiles to take crews and equipment to the scene of the accident.

The boy was airlifted to Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids.

His condition was not immediately available, the sheriff’s office said.
