WYOMING, Mich. (WOOD) – The City of Wyoming has a new leader at the helm of its fire department.

Frank Verburg started Monday as the deputy director of fire services, under the city’s re-engineered public safety department.

Verburg, who has more than 30 years of fire-department experience, will oversee 21 full-time and 35 paid, on-call firefighters.

Verburg, who replaces former Fire Chief Bob Austin, will report to Wyoming Public Safety Director James Carmody.

Before joining Wyoming Fire Services, Verburg held various positions with the Grand Rapids Fire Department, including deputy fire chief. He als represents Michigan with the International Association of Firefighters.
