GRANDVILLE, Mich. (WOOD) – Visitation was Tuesday for fallen Grandville High School athlete Ryan Fischer.

The 17-year-old died March 7 in his sleep from complications due to an enlarged heart. Fischer was a captain for Grandville’s hockey and football teams.

Visitation was held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Cook Memorial Chapel, 4235 Prairie St. SW in Grandville, with a Rosary at 7 p.m.

A funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3937 Wilson Ave. in Grandville. The church said its maximum capacity is 900 people, but that it is expecting many more to show up. Tuesday on Facebook, St. Pius X asked some people to consider not coming to the funeral to make room for others.

In honor of Ryan, contributions may be made to The Wounded Warrior Project or Wes Leonard Heart Foundation.
