Explosion, fire in pole barn

MARSHALL, Mich. (WOOD) – An explosion and subsequent fire occurred in a pole barn at a residence in Calhoun County late Friday morning.

It happened near Long Lake south of Marshall, according to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office.

There is no danger to the public, police said, but are asking people to avoid the area near Lyon Lake, east of I-69 and 17 Mile Road.

Authorities say the fire was sparked by someone using a grinder in the barn.

There were some legal fireworks in the building, but they were safe and not ignited by the fire.

No one was hurt in the fire.
