Large crowds show up for Irish on Ionia

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD)– Irish on Ionia, the annual St. Patrick’s Day street party in Grand Rapids, is the biggest it has ever been, according to organizers.

The event started at 7 a.m. Saturday, but organizers said people started lining up at 5 a.m. for the event. It is hosted by McFadden’s Restaurant & Saloon, and stretches from Oakes Street to Fulton Street.

Tickets are available at the gates of McFadden’s, HopCat, Grand Rapid Brewing Company, and Stella’s Lounge while supplies last :

  • General admission — $15
  • O’Malley Ticket — general admission with a Camp O’Malley T-shirt and food buffet voucher, valid 2- 8 p.m., all proceeds benefit Camp O’Malley — $25
  • Very Irish Person/VIP Ticket — fast pass, allows re-entry, an Irish on Ionia T-shirt and a 22 oz. Irish on Ionia mug, 22 oz. drinks for the price of 12 oz. all day — $55

Organizers expect about 20,000 people to attend the event. Due to that anticipated number, organizers have doubled their security staff.

Irish on Ionia ends at 11 p.m.
