UNDATED (WOOD/AP) –The first-round games of the NCAA basketball tournament were announced Sunday.
The Michigan Wolverines (25-8) will play the Wofford Terriers (20-12) in Milwaukee Thursday to start the tournament.
Michigan is seeded No. 2. in the Midwest Region. Wichita State is the No. 1 seed in that region, which also includes the No. 4-seeded Louisville. Both the Wolverines and the Cardinals joined the Shockers in the Final Four last year.
Michigan State (26-8), which beat Michigan Sunday in the Big 10 Tournament Championship, drew a No. 4 seed in the East Region. The Spartans will play the Delaware Blue Hens (25-9) in Spokane, Wash. at 4:40 p.m. Thursday.
Virginia is seeded No. 1 in the East Region.
The Western Michigan University Broncos will start their tournament run with a game against the Syracuse Orange in Buffalo, New York at 2:45 p.m. Thursday. WMU made it into the tournament for the first time in 10 years after beating Toledo on Saturday.
“It’s going to be a tough environment to play in, but that’s why we’re Broncos. We can go through any type of situation as long as we have each other,” WMU guard David Brown said. “Every year there’s a Cinderella team. Hopefully that’s us this year.”
Western is seeded No. 14 and Syracuse is seeded No. 3 in the South Region, in which Florida is the No. 1 seed. The Gators are also the top seed overall. Kansas is the No. 2 seed in the South Region.
Arizona is seeded No. 1 in the West Region, where Wisconsin is seeded No. 2.
The Final Four starts April 5 in Arlington, Texas.
