GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) What do you pay your babysitter? It’s a hot topic among parents and caregivers. What you pay can depend on a lot of things: how many kids you have, if they have special needs, or if you’re looking for any special skills in the babysitter. surveyed parents about this topic. They discovered that the more kids the babysitter is watching, the more that sitter is paid per hour. But the survey shows that a lot of people pay a flat rate of $10 per hour no matter how many children are home. This can depend on whether some of the kids are older or if the kids are younger, especially if they are babies. Paying $10 an hour also makes it easier when calculating a total cost at the end of the night.

The survey also found that rates vary by area. It shows parents pay the most for sitters in Grand Rapids Township, Ada, and Forest Hills. Babysitters were paid the least in Wyoming and Kentwood.

They survey showed that most parents pay $1 to $2 less per hour to a young teen sitter rather than a collage-aged sitter. And many parents pay more for sitters who can drive or will do light housework.
