GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Grand Rapids fire investigators say the apartment fire that injured three people, including a baby, started in the kitchen of one of the apartments.
The fire broke out around 3:30 p.m. Saturday at an apartment building located at 2860 Marshall Ave. SE, in the area of 28th Street and Eastern Avenue. Authorities say a mother and her infant were taken to the hospital with possible first- and second-degree burns. A third person was hospitalized due to smoke inhalation.
Grand Rapids Fire Department investigators were back at the scene Monday and determined the fire started in the kitchen of a first-floor apartment.
But, they said, they are still waiting to interview the person who lives in that apartment before coming to a conclusion about what caused the fire. They expect to conduct that interview Tuesday.
Other apartments have been cleared, but residents have not yet been issued permission to move back in.
