PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Event organizers unveiled Wednesday morning details about the newest big event coming to West Michigan, which will help local veterans and is expected to draw thousands from across the country.
The Freedom Cruise will be an annual event that will take place from June 25-29 this year.
It will focus on motorcycle and classic car enthusiasts, and feature events at the DeltaPlex in Walker and Fifth Third Ballpark in Comstock Park.
Village Motorsports is the inaugural sponsor.
“It’s grown by leaps and bounds, and it hasn’t even taken place yet,” Brad Schroeder, operations director for Village MotorSports told 24 Hour News 8 Tuesday. “It’s gonna be a first for not only West Michigan, but it’s gonna be a first for the power sports industry, the automotive industry as a whole. It’s gonna be really unique.”
Organizers also announced a new non-profit called Finish The Mission Veteran Relief Fund. It aims to support those who have served in the military after their service is completed. The goal is to raise $100,000.
The event kickoff will be at 7 p.m. June 25 at Fifth Third Ballpark where there will be a custom car and bike show, music, food and beer. At that event, a baseball game will be played between VetSports and Grand Rapids area fire and police department members.
The DeltePlex will host events on June 27 and 28. On that Friday, the Freedom Cruise Car & Bike Expo will happen from 2-10 p.m. with more than 250 booths and celebrity guests, including Rick and Kelly Dale from the History Channel’s “American Restoration,” and the Motorcycle Club from “We’re The Fugawi’s.” The expo continues the following day with a Freedom Rocks Grand Rapids concert.
There will also be “honor rides” for veterans every day throughout the area.
“Even if you cannot physically make it down to the Freedom Cruise, it will come to you,” Freedom Cruise Board of Director’s Chair and Kent County Commissioner Tom Antor said in a news release. “This is going to be a huge event with cars and bikes across West Michigan. And we are very excited to be raising funds for our local heroes.”
